Dedicated to saxophonist, Debra Richtmeyer, Études is a twelve-minute composition in three movements for alto saxophone and computer music on CD. "Night Song" and "Tex-Mix" were first performed as part of a larger piece entitled Eight Études written for four instruments and computer music on CD, commissioned by the National Music Honor Society, Pi Kappa Lambda. Circuits was originally written for orchestra, later arranged for wind ensemble, and finally transcribed for alto saxophone and computer instruments. The computer instruments employed in creating the CD part include a Macintosh IIci running Performer, three Yamaha TX81Z tone modules, a Yamaha DX7 synthesizer, a Proteus tone module, and a Boss SE-50 stereo effects processor. The CD part was realized at the computer music studios of the Academy of Music in Krakow, Poland, as well as the computer music studios of the Center for Experimental Music and Intermedia at the University of North Texas College of Music.
