SCHERZO IN G MINOR was orchestrated in 1829 as a replacement movement for Felix Mendelssohn’s (1809-1847) SYMPHONY NO. 1 IN C MINOR, Op. 11, which he had originally written at age 15. Dissatisfied with the original Menuetto movement, Mendelssohn substituted the third movement from his OCTET, Op. 20. It is valued both as a standalone concert work and as an illuminating window into his evolving symphonic voice, marking a bridge between Classical form and Romantic expression. It occasionally appears in place of or in addition to the Menuetto in concert hall performances of the symphony. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 2.2.0.0: Timp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set). Reprint edition.
