James Barnes' CONCERTO FOR TUBA was composed during the fall and winter of 1995-1996. The orchestral score was completed on February 6, 1996. Under the supervision of the composer, the accompaniment to the Concerto was transcribed for band by R. Mark Rogers, during the Fall of 1996. The premier performance of the Concerto took place on February 1, 1997, with Scott Watson, tuba soloist, accompanied by the United States Army Band, the composer conducting. The CONCERTO FOR TUBA is available for performances in recitals in a version for solo tuba and piano accompaniment. The piano reduction was prepared by Yukiko Nishimura. Both the orchestral and band accompaniments to the CONCERTO FOR TUBA are available on a rental basis from Southern Music Company. Study scores are available for sale.
