IM TIEFSTEN WALDE (In the Deepest Forest) is one of five tone poems originally written for solo winds that comprise Schmid's Opus 34. It was composed in 1920, and was dedicated to Josef Suttner, solo hornist at the Music opera, and teacher of horn at the Munich Hochschule. Edited by Thomas Bacon, versions for horn, cello, trombone/euphonium/bassoon, tuba, and tenor saxophone are available from the publisher.
