NIGHT VISION was commissioned by the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble in honor of the composer's 50th birthday & the 50th anniversary of the American Music Center with a dedication of 'gratitude & affection' to Sam DeLisi, a longtime & dear friend of the composer, & of the Ensemble. This 1-movement piece is scored for the by-now-classic combination of 'Pierrot plus percussion' with the addition of an oboe. Many nocturnal moods & colors are exploded during its 13 minutes. The composer conducted the first performance with the Ensemble in September, 1989, & their recording of the work will soon be released on MMC, along with McKinley's CURTAIN UP.
