American composer Ruth Crawford Seeger (1901-1953) is best known for her place in developing the modernist aesthetic, and she became a notable figure of a group of American composers called the "ultramoderns." She composed predominantly in the 1920s and 1930s, turning to studies on folk music from the late 1930s until her death. In 1930, the year she became the first woman to receive a Guggenheim Fellowship, Crawford Seeger composed four DIAPHONIC SUITES. DIAPHONIC SUITE No. 4, in three movements, was written for oboe and cello. Movements: I. Moderato; II. Andante cantando; III. Scherzando ritmico.
