Review
"The second half opened with Christian Woehr's arrangement of Brahms' String Quintet No. 2, Op. 111, turned into a String Symphony in G major. Reconstituting the works of others can be a risky business, but in this case the gamble paid off.
Woehr, a member of the Symphony's viola section who is a composer in his own right, has made a version of this mature, cheerful piece that gives it greater depth and interest. One of the appeals of chamber music is the clarity of having only one or two instruments to a part, but in this case, Woehr actually has added clarity: the oft-buried cello line can shine.

Woehr has given his own much-maligned section some interesting lines to play. (And why not) Concertmaster David Halen made the most of his lyrical solos.

This arrangement, losing none of the original's bright spirit and bringing a small masterpiece to the attention of a larger audience, should prove a winner with other orchestras as well as our own."
--Sarah Bryan Miller, St. Louis, Post-Dispatch
